వర్షాలతో తడిసిన రాజుగారి తోట పచ్చగా మెరిసిపోతున్నది. నేలతల్లి వర్షంతో తడిసి సువాసనలు వెదజల్లుతోంది. చెట్లు వర్షాలలో తడిసి చెట్లపై ఆకులు, ప్రతి ఒక్కటీ చేతితో పాలిష్ చేసినట్లు మెరుస్తున్నాయి. తోటమాలి కొత్తగా మొక్కను తెచ్చి పనివారు గుంతలు త్రవ్విన ప్రదేశానికి వచ్చాడు. ఒక చిన్న మొక్కను గుంతలో బహు జాగ్రత్తగా ఉంచుతూ ఇలా అన్నాడు. ఈ మొక్క బ్రతికి ఎదగకపోతే నా ఉద్యోగం పోతుంది. మీరంతా రాజభవనం లోపలి చీకటి గదులలో బంధింపబడి మగ్గిపోవలసి ఉంటుంది. మొక్క ఎదిగి పువ్వులు పూస్తే మీరు పని చేయవలసిన అసవరం లేకుండా బహుమతుల వెల్లువలో మునిగిపోతారు. మట్టితో మొక్క వేళ్ళను మూసే ముందు గుంతలో చెరుకురసాన్ని ఆ మొక్క వ్రేళ్ళకు అందేటట్లుగా వేశాడు.

సరిగ్గా అప్పుడే రాజు అతని చిన్నారి తనయుడు యువరాజుతో ఆ మొక్క వద్దకు వచ్చారు. రాజకుమారుడు తన తండ్రితో ఆ తోటలోని చెట్ల మధ్యకు రావడం అదే మొదటిసారి. నాన్నగారూ! ఏమిటీ మొక్క అంటూ ఆ మొక్కను తండ్రికి చూపి అన్నాడు. ఇది దానిమ్మ మొక్క. ఈ మొక్కకు అందమైన పూలుంటాయి అన్నాడు రాజు. రాజకుమారుడు తన తండ్రికి మొక్కలపట్ల ప్రేమను, సంరక్షించే విధానాన్ని తదేకంగా గమనించాడు.

The royal orchard looked lush after the rains. The earth was soft and wet and had a delightful fragrance. The trees looked like they had been washed and each leaf looked like it had been polished by hand.

The head gardener was getting a new tree planted. He directed his helpers to a pit that had been prepared just that morning. The young tree was carefully lowered. All along, the head gardener kept saying, "I will lose my job and all of you will rot in the darkest chambers of the palace if this tree does not survive. And if it blooms, you won't have to work another day in your life. You will all be handsomely rewarded."

As an offering to Mother Earth, he threw in sugar cane juice, before the roots of the young tree were patted with mud. Just then the King and his young prince stepped into the orchard. This was to be the first walk among the trees for the prince with his father. "Father, what is this sapling?" asked the prince, pointing to a plant. "It is a pomegranate sapling. The tree that will have the most beautiful flowers..."

The prince watched his father admiring the trees around them with love and care.
